Preliminary Surveys

We specialise in Phase 1 Habitat Surveys - initial walkover surveys and reports which will specify the ecological value of a habitat, highlight any need for further species specific surveys and make recommendations for enhancement of biodiversity within the development.

We will undertake any survey to your specified level of detail, and from a single site visit and verbal opinion to a habitat survey with full recommendations. We will however, provide guidance as to what level of survey will be required to meet planning authority and Natural England standards.

The earlier an ecological survey is carried out, the easier it will be to deal with any protected species issues which may arise. For example, should potential for bats be highlighted, and a bat roost be found, it may be necessary for the architect to design a roost within a new roof space, and it may only be possible to carry out works to the roost during 6 months of the year. The earlier these issues are highlighted the easier it is for all parties to accommodate any legally protected species, avoiding costly delays.
