D F Clark was appointed to carry out the hard and soft landscape design for the outline planning application of 66 residential apartments and associated landscape including two public open spaces, all set within a peri-urban area of Colchester, Essex.
The complex topography and hydrology provided different user types and micro-climates that could be utilised to offer aesthetic and user diversity as well biodiversity. The proposal responds to the complexity of the site by allowing naturally occurring features to define spaces and maintain integrity of the existing context.
